The God Father of Pilates ‘Joseph Pilates’ was born in Germany in 1880.  Joseph was a sickly youth who became determined to overcome his weaknesses.  Joseph studied Yoga, Zen, Greek and Roman exercise and took from these the basis of his method we know today as ‘Pilates’

Pilates involves gentle progressive exercises including stretching and controlled resistance movements using the abdominal muscles as the powerhouse of the body.

Physical benefits of Pilates include:

  • strengthen core
  • tone abdominals & tone pelvic floor
  • release tension
  • lengthen and strengthen the spine
  • relieve stress
  • increase concentration and encourage correct breathing patterns
  • reduce back pain

Pilates is for everyone regardless of shape, size or fitness level.

Introductory: Entry level for those new to Pilates.  We begin by teaching correct recruitment of core musculature whilst strengthening, sculpting you to a whole new body.

Beginners:  Beginners focuses on refining technique and consolidating the principles of Pilates whilst slowly introducing you to Pilates tools such as the Power Circle, fitness bands, hand weights to name a few.

Intermediate:  Involves more dynamic, flowing movement with control and deepened core connection.

Advanced:  Whilst building and deepening the core further, students are introduced to a tool named the ‘Foam Roller’.  The Foam Roller is a round cylinder made from dense foam.  Exercises are performed whilst laying on the foam roller.  The foam roller enhances conscious body and spacial awareness as is the need to focus and draw further upon core muscle recruitment.
